What we do
We are a Canberra charity dedicated to keeping young athletes safe from sudden cardiac arrest. We provide cardiac screening and in partnership with coaches, managers, sporting clubs and recognised sporting bodies, we support local sporting communities to strengthen emergency preparedness.
Heart screening saves lives. Screening can help find hidden heart conditions early and may prevent sudden cardiac arrest from happening. We work with sporting clubs and school teams to perform heart screening.
Prevention and preparedness go hand in hand. Even with screening, not every case of sudden cardiac arrest can be prevented. That’s why strong education on emergency response is essential.
Fast actions save lives. Learning Chest compressions/CPR and how to use a defibrillator (AED) can be the difference between life and death.
Who we are
Following the loss of their son, Josh to sudden cardiac arrest in July 2025, Taiye and Joe Oguns – both GPs in Canberra, have established the Josh4Hearts Foundation.
Taiye and Joe are committed to the work of the Foundation:
- encouraging sporting clubs and bodies to refer their young players for cardiac screening
- supporting local communities and sporting clubs to respond effectively to sudden cardiac arrest during games and training.
Through this work, Josh’s life continues to make a difference. His light lives on in every young athlete screened, every coach trained, and every community better prepared to respond in an emergency. Josh’s legacy is not defined by the day he was lost, but by the countless lives his story will help protect for generations to come.
